Ted Moss was born May 25th 1962 in rural Geauga County Ohio; his upbringing was a blue-collar lifestyle and as such worked in a wide variety of jobs. His first job at age 12 was working in a bar cleaning the bathrooms and grease traps for $1.00 an hour. Ted attended West Geauga High School where he participated in track, wrestling, student council, and theatre while at the same time working in construction and also as a bricklayer.

Ted was very active in Boy Scouts where he learned the value of hard work, being prepared and leadership skills. He was one of the founding members of The Chester Township Police Explorers, a division of The Boy Scouts. This program exposed Ted to law enforcement at a very young age. By the time he graduated high school, his career path seemed set having logged over 2000 hours of ride-along experience with the police department. Ted’s first love, however, was aviation. So after a year in the Kent State University Aerospace Technology program, his family’s financial needs led him to the career he has followed since 1978 when he joined the Police Explorers.

After graduating from Lakeland Community College’s Police Academy in 1983, Ted served as a constable for Parkman Township Ohio, a rural Amish community. This seemed like a safe place to start his career but fate had a different plan in store. Having discovered corruption within the department, Ted worked undercover for the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the problems with the small rural police force in Parkman, which culminated in arrests of several members because of Ted’s undercover investigation.

During the next 27 years, Ted pursued his criminal justice career by immersing himself in anything related to law enforcement, investigations, and business security. As a store detective for various retailers, he apprehended hundreds of shoplifters as well as conducted many employee theft investigations as a loss prevention professional. Ted worked undercover in a factory to uncover drug abuse. He also worked for Twinsburg Township Police and The Ohio Department of Mental Health as a police officer. This diverse range of experiences helped Ted to launch Omni Protective Services in 1985; a security and investigative services provider.

In 1989, Ted became The Director of Investigations for The nationally acclaimed Inter-Fact, a high end security and loss prevention consulting firm. Here he brought his unique and broad understanding of the criminal justice field to bear and serviced clientele nationwide by helping them protect their most valuable assets; their employees, and customers. Through the use of high tech surveillance equipment, field investigators, and expertise, Ted helped save clients millions of dollars as well as pioneered new methods in the area of employment screening.

In 1991 Ted launched Insight Research Systems which subsequently became Crimcheck.com with the emergence of the internet as an increasingly viable method of commerce. Moss and his team leveraged existing and, innovated new technology that has created a highly efficient and cost effective method for employers to make hiring the right talent easy. Ted is currently The Vice President of The Berea Rotary Club, a member of Entrepreneurs Organization and NAPBS (National Association of Professional Background Screeners) and has recently served several years as a Regional Vice President of ASIS International (American Society of Industrial Security). Moss has appeared in numerous publications and has been seen on The Maury Show as an expert on surveillance. Moss speaks frequently to civic and business organizations on employment screening legislation and safe hiring practices.
